Two cars stolen following theft of keys from Shrewsbury house

A black Volvo XC70 4×4, registration AK07 SPV, and a black Audi A4 convertible, registration RF52 LSC, were stolen with the keys from Canonbury between about 11pm on Tuesday and 7.45am yesterday.

The keys for both had been left on a shelf in the hallway of the house, within sight and reach of the front door.

It is believed the thieves used something to reach inside through the letterbox and ‘hook’ the keys, before stealing the vehicles.

Anyone who might have witnessed suspicious persons in the area during that night is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000 or the anonymous Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.

Police also issued the following advice on how to prevent becoming a victim of such crime, which although not common in Shropshire, does take place.

“Always keep doors locked, even if you are at home, and accessible windows secure whenever you are out of the room,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Never leave keys or other valuables within reach or sight of any possible access to your home, such as near doors or windows or even letterboxes and cat flaps.

“Ideally, keep keys upstairs or in a drawer out of sight when you go to bed at night.”
