Another day, another chase
SEGUIN - Local law enforcement agencies were on the hunt again Friday morning, searching for a number of men who bailed out of an SUV.
Seguin Police Lt. Jim Boeck said the event started around 10:30 a.m. when Cpl. Jules Olvera attempted to pull over a 1994 Isuzu Trooper eastbound on Interstate 10 for a traffic violation.
The vehicle drove down IH 10 and took exit 617 at FM 2438. It drove down the access road, blew through the intersection and climbed back on to the highway, Boeck said. Less than a quarter mile down the road the Trooper tried to lose the officer by leaving the road again, this time by means of an unpaved path, Olvera said.
"They drove up a steep, grassy embankment, nearly rolling the vehicle in the process," he said.
The officer followed the path on foot only to find the SUV stopped just on the other side of the hill - after it busted though the Silver Wolf Ranch fence.
Olvera met with the security guards, who told him that four, possibly five men escaped the vehicle and may have had weapons, Boeck said.
"One of the guards said one of the occupants reached in their waist band and he thought he saw a gun," Boeck said.
This promoted a multi-agency search of the large ranch and the surrounding area.
Aiding in the search were deputies from the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and investigators for the District Attorney and County Attorney's offices, Boeck said.
Because of the weather conditions and maintenance issues, helicopters were not able to launch to aid in the search, Boeck said.
After about two hours of searching, officers were unable to locate any suspects.
Boeck said the SUV may have been transporting illegal immigrants.
Officers are in the process of trying to track down the vehicle's current owner.
This is the second incident in as many days where officers were involved in a pursuit and search for possible illegal immigrants.
On Thursday, Seguin Police K9 Officer Mark Zuazua attempted to pull over a 2004 Chevy pickup on IH 10, they led him on a chase into Kingsbury.
That adventure ended on Gravel Pit Road with the apprehension of 7 suspected illegal immigrants and another possible 10 who escaped.
Those captured were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, Boeck said.
Occurrences, like the ones officers have seen this week, don't have a consistent pattern, Boeck said.

No, I'll take easier to use in a heartbeat unless the way they made it easier to use was to dumb it down. Making something better and making something easier to use aren't necessarily the same thing. An automatic transmission is easier to use than a manual transmission but there are a host of reasons why manual transmission are the better choice. Lots of the changes to FCP X look very promising. The 'enhanced' labeling/tagging feature for clips sounds great. As does their new stab at having an 'open timeline' (hopefully it works out much better than their current attempt at it). The easy color matching between shots could save me a ton of tedious work that I hate doing assuming it works properly. I didn't realize this was an Apple ad until the very end. Granted, I wasn't on the edge of my seat paying close attention. I was too worried about my Wildcats losing in the final 4. About halfway through the ad I noticed that the little tablet thingy was actually an iPad, and that got me wondering what the commercial was for. Didn't seem at all like an Apple commercial of late, which is a good thing because I think they were getting pretty cliche. iSupply also states that the xbox 360 costs $323 for the premium unit to build; at $76 less than the retail price. After the channel margins are taken out, Microsoft is breaking even. Microsoft is already a year into things, and is about to release a cheaper xbox 360 using 65nm parts, which will save them even more. All in all, Microsoft is looking fairly good this time around for turning a profit. Infact, in an interview this past week I read that the Entertainment division would have turned a profit this year if it wasn't for the Zune. If in 1960 you told me the day would come when IBM wouldn't make a ton of money leasing card sorters I'd have been sceptical. (many called them evil for refusing to sell card readers to companies while charging the fair market value many times over on long-term leases) If in 1990 I had told you the day would come when IBM wouldn't be in the PC business you might have been sceptical. I, a dyed in the wool Apple fan, wouldn't have predicted Apple's success 10 years ago. MS has the money and worker-bee brains to stay in any game they choose to play. They should be ashamed of the Zune and I don't understand why they rushed it to market but I don't think it's a slam-dunk that it, and they, are doomed for the trashbin of corporate history.
