This is part of Syracuse's most recent retail hybrid, a restaurant and entertainment, but always bringing unopenable, its developers say, a collection of some 100 retailers designed to attract buyers from many miles.

You are standing inside of the expansion of Carousel Center Gallery. You entered from a future corridor linking the center's current expansion, next to Lord & Taylor, across what was once the Borders Bookstore.

You have entered another world.

If Carousel was on a formal design, but airy, the expansion is bright, casual and industrial looking.

If Carousel was on the straight and narrow in public areas - gone - and escalators or elevators hunts to go from floor to floor, the expansion is free form and fluid, with banks of stairs - 16 banks of 32 - and five glass elevators scattered.

"The escalators are at odd angles. They encourage you to explore and look around," said Bruce Kenan, executive Pyramid Cos., which has contributed to Carousel Center and many other Pyramid malls.

The Canyon. It’s what the team is calling the three-level space in the section of the expansion farthest west. If you drive in from Solar Street, you see the three levels of glass that fronts The Canyon — which in early designs, had the start of an Erie Canal replica that is no longer on the table.

The first floor of that wide open space, said Kenan, will have mostly restaurants — The Melting Pot upscale fondue chain confirmed it’s one of them — surrounding The Canyon.

“Whether we call it The Canyon forever and ever, we don’t know. It’s just what we started calling it,” Kenan said during a tour of the expansion with reporters Tuesday. The second level will have the high-end outlets The Post-Standard named June 15 , plus others. The third level will have more restaurants and entertainment attractions, such as the Revolutions bowling center and entertainment concept.

Where much of the light pouring into the current Carousel Center is muted by fabric-covered skylights, the light in the expansion is natural, bright and full. In addition to the three-level glass facade facing Solar Street and overseeing The Canyon, there are skylights.

Sixty feet from the ground and atop the third floor of that glass facade, the view of The Canyon is arching. The view down Solar Street offers a panoramic cityscape, with Hiawatha Boulevard below, Franklin Square in the near distance and the AXA towers topping downtown’s horizon.

Name can be changed at anytime after GC is done.. even if taking GC takes few years. There are millions of couple in US where husband and wife uses different last name.
