Andrea Braido, il chitarrista con la mano in più

E’ uno dei migliori chitarristi italiani, forse il migliore, ma non può dirlo nemmeno Sottovoce perchè Gigi Marzullo non lo invita nel suo salotto. Appena abbraccia la sua Paul Red Smith, un gioiello di chitarra Usa di cui è endoresman, però Andrea Braido, al secolo Big Boy, scatena l’uragano. Sale sul palco allestito da Lenzotti e le sua manone cominciano a volare sulla Custom Braidus 24 esaltata da un ampli Marshall; ogni centimetro del manico viene coinvolto nello show del chitarrista (splendidi i duetti con Jamaes Hayes) nato a Pergine di Valsugana nel 1964. La sua carriera fa paura: ha suonato con Patty Pravo, Celentano, Mina, Ruggiero, Pausini, Zucchero e Ramazzotti. Lead guitar a Stasera Pago Io di Fiorello, per 4 anni, dal 1989 al 1993, è stato al fianco di Vasco Rossi. Poi collaborazioni all’estero, su tutte quella con Marcus Miller.

Andrea Braido è un chitarrista anomalo: ha una mano in più rispetto a tanti colleghi italiani ed europei, la mano destra. Non usa il plettro e ha trasformato una menomazione, la perdita di una falange, in un punto di forza. La mano sinistra vola sulla tastiera, l’altra scorre sulle sei corde percuotendole, accarezzandole, strappandole per poi sfiorarle di nuovo con estrema delicatezza. Sconfina dal blues, alla fusion, dal jazz al rock con accenni di chicken pickin. Il temporale scatenato da Braido sta per abbattersi sul palco e dopo oltre un’ora di live, Andrea si concede per un’intervista, Max Canevaro, organizzatore del clinic Prs, e lo staff di Lenzotti intrattengono decine di fans in attesa di un autografo.

Braido si presenta così:

«Ho iniziato a suonare a 12-13 anni. Subito la batteria, anche il basso, poi la chitarra è entrata nella mia vita. È uno strumento perfetto, la fusione tra ritmica e melodia».

Cosa rappresenta la chitarra per Andrea Braido?

«La possibilità di fare musica, di esprimere un dono. È anche un modo di salvare l’anima in un mondo che sta assumento aspetti sempre più negativi. La musica ti mette al riparo da tante cose, esprime energia e spiritualità».

A differenza dei colleghi italiani ed europei, non utilizzi il plettro e usi la mano destra all’americana.

«Colpa del mio primo viaggio a New York. Ho scoperto un sound originale che veniva dall’uso differente della mano destra. Ho plasmato un mio stile, se vogliamo poco italiano, caratterizzato da melodie e influenze multietniche. L’aspetto ritmico poi è decisivo e non a caso mi trovo benissimo a suonare coi neri».

This video is a demo/review of an Ovation Celebrity Series CC045 12 String Acoustic/Electric guitar. This is an awesome example of when they get it just right…it plays and sounds great…it totally blew away an old Kalamazoo Gibson that I tried right next to it (and the Gibson played well but just didn’t have a great sound). I say in the video that Fender moved all the Ovation operations to China…what I meant was that they make all of their import series guitars in China now…and the comparable guitar doesn’t have the nice preamp that this one has aside from any other corners they are cutting (and any quality control issues there may be). I sell lots of used guitars and basses (both here and on eBay…same name there…100% positive feedback) and I’m a dealer for the Mbrace stands (still .00 including USPS Priority mail service for the US, for Canada or Mexico and .00 for the rest of the world) and also Thomastik-Infeld strings. I’m looking to sell mine. It’s in great condition, considering I barely play it. It needs new strings, but that’s it. The output jack was replaced with a better, more durable substitute. I am offering a free small Yamaha Amp, Guitar Stand, and Carrying Case as well.
