) In which Kevin, Jackie's husband (played by Dominic Fumusa ), admitted he'd had an affair. Jackie ( Edie Falco ) - being the level-headed, honest, non-hypocritical character that she is - decided to do what she thought was best in the situation: she kicked him out of the house.Wait, what?!
Okay, so Jackie isn't honest at all, and her move to hold Kevin accountable for his affair completely lets her off the hook for her own affair with Eddie, a pharmacist who essentially traded prescription drugs for sex with Jackie*. In fact, Jackie managed to get herself off the hook for everything this year: her friendship with O'Hara was restored without too much trouble, and Akalitus binned her urine sample (which, presumably, would have failed).
As I wrote in a preview of the finale last week for the Dominion Post, we ended right back where we started: at the start of the series, Jackie was covering up a drug problem and an affair, while going through marital problems with Kevin, and feeling a bit of pressure at work.

Even the minor characters didn't go anywhere: Dr Cooper (my favourite character on the show, played by Peter Facinelli ) didn't really go anywhere or do anything this year ... well, aside from the divorce of his mothers and a failed wedding to an ex-girlfriend he looked up on Facebook, both of which were much funnier than they sound.
Zoey, another OTB favourite played by Merritt Wever , didn't go anywhere either - at the start of the season she was unsure about her relationship to paramedic Lenny, and at the end of the season she was still unsure about her relationship to paramedic Lenny.
My point is this: most serial dramas on TV** involve some kind of development, and they achieve this by implementing a closed narrative structure - giving the story a beginning, middle, and an end. My old media studies textbook describes the structure as starting with a character in a stable situation (beginning), then having the character forced into some sort of conflict or turmoil (middle), then ending up in a new stable situation (end).
