Disney Universe will give excuses to dress up like cartoon characters
There’s another game you’ll want to keep an eye on at E3 2011, and it’s one you wouldn’t expect. It’s a multiplayer game from Disney called Disney Universe . How appropriate. Those characters up there? Those are the avatars in some of the costumes players can dress up in. Yes, they’re just adorable.
That’s one of the main points Disney seems to want to make with Disney Universe - that it’s adorable. The first trailer seems to focus on the whole equipping costumes based on iconic Disney characters to get access to certain equipment and just look awesome. There’s no gameplay, just four little avatars trying to open a treasure chest, then preparing to face off against bad guys.
I’d say that’s pretty precious.
Disney Universe is going to be an action game along the lines of Lego Star Wars and Lego Harry Potter , where people can play alone or with up to three friends on their PS3, Xbox 360, Windows PC or Mac. You create a character, find him or her some Disney costumes and then go around levels in one of the six Disney and Disney-Pixar themed worlds. In each level there are bad guys to beat up, puzzles to solve and treasures to collect.
You can eventually around 40 costumes, and then level them up to make each one more powerful. The costumes above, if you’re curious, are Nemo from Finding Nemo , Pumbaa from The Lion King , Stitch from Lilo and Stitch and Celia from Monsters, Inc. . They all appear to be standing in the Monsters, Inc. scream factory, so perhaps that will be one of the worlds in Disney Universe .
Disney hasn’t said if Disney Universe will appear as part of its E3 2011 lineup, but I think there’s a good chance of that happening. Especially since Disney Universe is going to be released in Fall 2011.

Story: A clown fish named Marlin living in the Great Barrier Reef loses his son, Nemo, after he ventures into the open sea, despite his father's constant warnings about many of the ocean's dangers. Nemo is abducted by a boat and netted up and sent to a dentist's office in Sydney. So, while Marlin ventures off to try to retrieve Nemo, Marlin meets a fish named Dory, a blue tang suffering from short-term memory loss. The companions travel a great distance, encountering various dangerous sea creatures such as sharks, anglerfish and jellyfish, in order to rescue Nemo from the dentist's office, which is situated by Sydney Harbor. While the two are doing this, Nemo and the other sea animals in the dentist's fish tank plot a way to return to Sydney Harbor to live their lives free again.
