TD Canada Trust Color Change: Is New Always Better ... - Bank Nerd

I’ve been using the TD Canada Trust website pretty much since it’s launch. Granted their old colors weren’t flashy, but I did prefer them to the new colors! The new colors are such an eyesore! It’s like they’re just trying to pick vibrant colors that contrast with each other, regardless of how horrible those colors are. Lime green? really?

The new look has been unfinished for quite some time now. Some buttons and logos they use are the same old ones from the old color scheme, and they just don’t belong anymore because they were made for the green background, not white. The logout button for instance has a rough dark green edge around it from the old site…

All in all, I wish I had the old site back.

I disagree that letting users go back to the old site is a good option. Because (a) it seems like hedging your bets – sort of like having a new logo designed and keeping the old one on stationary. Make your choice and pick it and (b) it’s a ton of work to maintain two different styles of design simulataneously.

Also, having been through many web redesigns, I can say with absoultely certaintly one thing: People are creatures of habit and even if intially they hate a website they use a lot, they get used to it and get over it… until the site is changed. So even if it’s better, they instinctively hate it. Until they get used to it, and the cycle repeats (assuming the redesign isn’t an edsel or new coke level catastrophe).

I completely understand what you are saying, but seeing as it really is just a color change, it wouldn’t hurt to make it so their are options. I definitely can agree that it can be difficult to maintain two different styles, but it isn’t something that cannot be done.

It will definitely take time for people to adjust to the new site, but looking at it from those who find the site’s colors to be too flashy is something I do not see anyone getting used to anytime soon, or even at all.

Fair enough sensei but that’s getting close to

I’m not saying it can’t be done. But (and disclaimer, I work for a large multinational) maintaining two websites in two languages is hard enough. I can’t imagine having double the approvals process for two designs.

I’m guessing that TD believes that people will get used to it (it’s not like they set out to design the worst website they could do…..) I’ts not just a colour change though. There’s changes in the navigational structure, buttons, fonts, etc.
