How To Make Cookie Favors - Gourmet Cookie Bouquets

When you are in charge of hosting a baby or bridal shower or other party, consider making cookies as your favors. Guests will love them both to look at and to eat. And you’ll also save money since cookies are inexpensive compared to the price of other favors. All that’s needed is a little time and the right ingredients.

Think about which cookie you’d like to make. Most favors look best when made from a sugar cookie recipe. Try not to cut corners by using store bought cookie dough. These doughs are made in such a way that they spread too much in the oven to keep their shape. But the exception to this would be the type of cookie dough that you can buy that already has a festive picture in it. These cookies are designed to be baked as is and the design will not spread upon baking. For instance, if you find cookies that have cute chicks on them in the raw cookie dough form in the supermarket, you can use them to make favors.

You’ll need some lollipop sticks from the craft store. While you are there, pick up some cellophane candy bags. These are for individually wrapping each cookie. Pick up some lovely ribbon in the color scheme of your party as well for tying onto the bottom of the cookie bag where it meets the lollipop stick.

The only really tricky part of baking cookie favors is that you must stick the lollipop stem into the cookie before baking. Insert it halfway up the cookie so that no portion of the stick will show out the top. That’s it! Continue with your regular cookie baking ways. Just wait for cookies to cool and then decorate them with icing, sanding sugars or any other candies you’d like. Wrap each one individually and tie with ribbon.

It’s best to stand the cookies up in a large glass or vase that will not fall over. They’ll look nice and then you can give them out as favors. Another option is to place one favor at each person’s place setting and then you won’t have to worry about storing them. But since you’re going to make them ahead, it’s a good idea to stand them up until you are ready to decorate.

Cookie favors can be adapted to any occasion. Baby showers lend themselves to ducks, baby feet, and little t-shirt shapes. You can find all these cookie cutters and more at a kitchen supply store. Go with Christmas themed cutters like reindeer or snowmen or Santa or a cheerful heart for a wedding favor . Anything you decide to do can easily be customized with icing.
