BMT applies for patent for ROV-serviceable strain sensor technology

BMT Scientific Marine Services says it is trying to patent his Subsea ROV serviceable strain sensor Assembly (SSEA).

The company has submitted application number 61416711 (currently underway with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) patents his special tool ROV and cage that allows alignment of individual sensors in an assembly to be repaired or replaced without using a plunger.

SSSA BMT is used to monitor the structural integrity of underwater structures such as steel catenary risers, production risers, tendons, platform legs and braces.

Previously, these sensors were limited to the maintenance of diversity because of the delicacy required to treat and the inability of an ROV to handle the nuts and bolts that hold the standard sensors to drive.

BMT Said: "With the technology ROV serviceable, managers and operators of integrity platform can avoid the costs and risks associated with diving operations to change a faulty sensor and no longer have to rely on systems highly redundant.
