Mapping Sharia Project Goes Beyond Islamophobia to Raving, Paranoid, In(SANE)ity!

When reading the Sharia and Violence in American mosques, an image that appears may give researchers and police officers, a way to monitor and potentially predict where violent jihad can take root. Potential recruits who were involved in this movement can find inspiration and encouragement in a location with easy access to classic and modern literature that is positive toward jihad and violence, where the very Shariah-adherent behavior is practiced, and where there is a company that, in some form promotes a culture of martyrdom, or at least participate in activities that support violent jihad.The mosque can be such a place.

The survey, Sharia and Violence in American mosques, found a strong correlation between the presence of the literature of serious violence and the promotion of mosques with written, audio, video and materials which promoted such acts.

51% of American mosques had texts that either advocated the use of violence in pursuit of a political order based on sharia or advocated violence Jihad, another 30% had texts that were moderately favorable to violence . 19% had no texts at all violent.

Mosques survey contained a variety of texts, from contemporary documents and pamphlets printed in the classic texts of Islamic canon. From the perspective of promoting violent jihad, types of literature have been classified in the investigation of severe to moderate or non-existent. The selected texts were all written to serve as normative and informative way and are not scriptural. This is important because a believer is free to understand the Scriptures literally, figuratively, or simply poetic when it has no normative or legal gloss provided by Islamic jurisprudence.

Alarmingly, many of these are currently approved by the American Muslim site in its "list of recommended books on Islam." Al-Misri al-Salik Umdat of the Tafsir Ibn Kathir, and explicitly political tract of Qutb, Milestones, are each finger-praised.

In addition, the list of recommended books contains works by several other authors included in the investigation of Mapping Shari'a Project texts that promotes the use of violence in pursuit of a political order based on sharia or advocated violent jihad.American Muslims recommended books by Maududi (author of Jihad in Islam and Tafhim al-Qur'an) and al-Nawawi (author of Riyad-us-Saliheen). American Muslims also recommends working with the Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi. It is not surprising that the site and its author, Sheila Musaji, were highly critical of U.S. policy against terrorism and any negative criticism of Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood.
