New Housing Provides Vacation Spot Near Giants Ridge

Within the 2,000 acre Giants Ridge ski and golf resort, a new housing development, The Residence Club, is expected to expand the quality and diversity of the resort and the town of Biwabik.

"Tourists come out to Giants Ridge, they want to golf, they want to ski, they want to go out on their atvs, snowmobiles, whatever," said Jim Sweiaring, Pres., Giants Ridge Masters Association.

Developers of the Residence Club housing say the new community will provide the ideal year round vacation spot for families and keep them coming back.

"What they really need is butts in the beds because that's what creates the activity and the amenities," said Stan Dobrin, Founding Principal of the Residence Club at Giants Ridge.

The cost to own a share of the development breaks down to about $10,000 per year with monthly maintenance fees just under $300.

Once the construction site for the residence club is completed, it will include 27 homes. Seven will overlook the ski area, seven will overlook The Legend golf course and 13 will lover look Lake Sabin.

Because the lots are clustered, developers only disturbed approximately 12 acres of the total 35. The rest of the property has been left in its natural state.

"Instead of building 27 homes for 27 families, we are building 27 homes for 270 families," Dobrin said. "By sharing the ownership of houses, we are saving on materials, on many things that are pollutants."

Developers say the concept will give owners the chance to own a deeded interest in a second home, without the headaches and concerns of individual owner ship.

"Family oriented, fun, user friendly, and easy," Carol Dobrin, Vice President of the managing company said. "All you have to do is show up, we've done all the work for you. We don't' want you mowing lawns or working on toilets. We just want you to come and have a good time."

One home has been built and is open for showings. Construction on the second home is expected to begin this summer.
