The organizers behind the Alamo Beer Challenge, a four-race series designed to prepare runners for the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon and 1/2 Marathon in November, want to make racing fun by adding in bands, food and beer at each event. Engraved growlers (beer jugs) will be given out as awards.

The series kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a 5K/10K at Leon Creek Greenway. Post-race shenanigans will take place at the Drury Inn and Suites, 15806 I-10 W. Registration costs $30-$35 in advance or $40-$45 on race day.

Upcoming races will be a 8K/15K on Aug. 13 at McAllister Park, a 10K/20K on Sept. 17 at Blue Star Brewery and a 15K/20-miler Oct. 22 at Leon Creek Park. More info at www.scallywompus.com or call 210-849-8275.
