Kids reel in fish, fun at Wadsworth Pond

Nearly 1,500 kids and parents reeled in some big fun on Saturday during the annual Kids Fishing Day at Wadsworth Pond.

Whether or not they made a catch, kids were enjoying the sunny, three-hour event, now in its 18th year.

Children who attended received either a free rod and reel combo or tackle box after visiting four education stations: fly tying, fish identification, knot tying and casting.

MT FWP spokesman Bruce Auchly noted, "We hope that kids take away the idea that fishing is fun, it's easy to do, it's an activity you can enjoy your whole life."

Nearly 100 volunteers from Malmstrom Air Force Base, Walleyes Unlimited, Missouri River Fly Fishers, North Middle School Fishing Club, and MT FWP made the event a success.

Hugh and Kristy shared with us this picture of the 9-year old son Franky McLaughlin, who caught a 6# 20.5" large mouth bass about 15 feet off shore during the event.

The middle to tip action on this rod, is actually fascinating. The Snobee Prestige II is easy to cast, and presents the line well. The quality of the rod is impeccable, and the reel seat is quite nice. This fishing tackle if handy and durable, and has an attractive matte green blank. I’m not crazy about the hook keeper feature which I believe is too small. In spite of the steady tip action, I really have not had any issues with medium to short distance casts. With the longer casts, the line speed is still great. This is a strong rod, and I’ve experienced no problem casting into the wind with it.

Fly Fishing Tackle: Final Thoughts on the Snobee Prestige II Rod

The total superiority of this rod holds the strong blank on the Prestige II. I think that the cork handle is of excellent quality, and although the rod doesn’t perform as well as some others in the Snobee range, it’s worth acquiring. If you’re hard on your tackle, this Snobee Prestige model might not be right for you. Lastly, the performance seems to be kind of awkward and hard to express, maybe it’s best labelled middle to tip, but reasonable. I believe that the Prestige II rod would be more well suited for river anglers who are not really energetic, who actually sit and wait for the fish to seize their bait.
