Bird enthusiasts flock together to Illini Bird Fanciers Club

When Annette Hunsaker was a child, she loved listening to the canaries that her grandmother kept in the kitchen.

"I liked hearing what canary sings," the woman recalled Springfield.

10 years ago, retired library assistant decided she wanted to hear again the canaries. So she bought a male and female, and now she is a breeder canary that has transformed a room in his house in a bird room for eight pairs she owns.

"The house is full of singing canaries," she said. "It is melodious and gay."

The joy of keeping birds is shared by many central Illinois, some of whom, including Hunsaker, get to know each other through the Illini Bird Fanciers Club. Members meet monthly for a program and meal.

Club members say their commitment to the African gray parrots, parakeets, parrots, macaws, Amazon parrots, conures, cockatiels, lovebirds, parrots, finches, canaries and other caged birds from the nature creatures of love, the ability to drive, play, intelligence, beauty and ability to vocalize and sing.

"I'm fascinated by birds," said club member Stacey Bacon of Springfield, who has a Quaker parrot named BB and a conure named Tippi (after the actress Tippi Hedren, star of the movie "The Birds").

"When I play video games, Tippi will go from my shoulder to my arm, then press the buttons on the controller. Some people believe that birds are stupid, but they are not. They may have great personalities," said it, noting how the birds hang upside down, talk and cuddle.

Beautiful pair of breeding Sun Conures. Bunny and Beau are tame when not with eggs. I got them in Los Angeles, CA three months ago. They supposedly had a clutch of five babies with previous owner. The eggs that they have now (five eggs) are not fertile (that I can tell). They had a metal breeding box with previous owner and I got them a wood box, I am not sure if this has helped cause the eggs to not be fertile. The birds were also in an outside aviary and I have them in a cage. The birds are 4 and 5 years old. I have worked from home for the past six years but because of the recent economy I have returned back to work outside my home. For this reason I am selling most of my birds. I am looking for a good home with someone who loves birds and has time to spend with them. I paid $850 for them without a cage…I will sell both birds with their cage (I paid $150 for used cage, it was $300 new) and their breeding box. I am in the birds and equipment well over $1,000 but will sell all for $500 to the right person. I will not sell for any less and I will not separate the birds. Will consider interesting trades but not for any animals.
