Officials Release Name of Drowning Victim
NORTH PADRE ISLAND -- Police say the man who drowned Sunday afternoon near JP Luby Surf Park was 29-year-old Gilberto Ruiz of Pharr, Texas.
Police say Ruiz was standing in chest deep water near Beach Marker 203 when a wave came crashing over his head, knocking him down.
Officials say Ruiz couldn't swim so his cousin, a surfer, and another person brought him to shore.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
