Gov. Livingston (0) at Robbinsville (10), IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS - Softball

ROBBINSVILLE â Following its squeaker of a win in the NJSIAA Group II Central semifinal on Tuesday against Delaware Valley, the Robbinsville softball team absorbed a simple message.
Just relax.
The result was quite an improvement, as the top-seeded Ravens throttled second-seeded Governor Livingston 10-0 yesterday in a run-rule shortened five innings to claim the sectional title.
With the win, Robbinsville will face Group II South champion Sterling in the state semifinal Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Wall Township High School.
âI had a very good feeling about today, because last game they played nervous, and that didnât work for them,â Robbinsville coach Christine Cabarle said. âI wanted them to come in totally chill, relaxed and just play.â
Gabby Leach was one of those relaxed Ravens, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a second-inning double and two home runs. Her first round-tripper was a solo shot in the fourth, and her second one brought home three runs to make it 10-0 and end the game in the fifth.
Those were three of Robbinsvilleâs 13 hits. Christine Levering, Rebecca Freeman and Lauren Hunter added two hits apiece as the Ravens left just two runners on base. That was a key difference from the 2-1 win over Delaware Valley on Tuesday when Robbinsville left eight runners on and Leach and Freeman led the team with two hits each.
With a larger-than-usual crowd at Tantum Park on hand to see the schoolâs first sectional final appearance in its half-decade history, Leach said the team was in a groove.
âToday we realized we have it,â Leach said. âItâs ours to take. We just have to go and get it.â
Robbinsville sophomore pitcher Lauren Fischer (21-0) gave up four hits and struck out six, stranding seven Gov. Livingston runners.
The Ravensâ only non-league action this season has come in the state tournament, and Robbinsville has introduced its standout in the circle to the rest of the Central section.
âHave we seen that level pitching this year?â Gov. Livingston coach Rick Iacono said of Fischer. âThe answer is no.â
Iacono said Fischer reminded him of his former pitcher, Capri Catalano, who led Gov. Livingston to a Group II state title in 2007. Catalano now pitches at the University of South Florida.
âI had a pitcher of that caliber in â07 when we won it all,â Iacono said. âItâs not just the speed. (Itâs) the movement and the confidence.

Mark Lucock soon had his rapid RS2000 up behind Neil and passed him on the second lap.
